What is moldavite worth per gram? · How to vet a moldavite seller

Moldavite formed about 15 million years ago, when a meteorite
struck what is now southern Germany and threw molten rock into the upper atmosphere. It cooled in
flight and fell across a narrow strewn field in Bohemia. Every piece of moldavite in the world came
from that single event, the Czech fields are nearly worked out, and no more is being made.

Nesmen is one of the southern Bohemian localities, and its material tends to
the clear green end of the range. This piece has the classic naturally etched surface – the pitting
and wrinkling is not damage, it is millions of years of acidic sediment working on the glass, and
it is one of the things that separates real moldavite from the moulded green glass sold as it.

A good entry piece: small enough to carry or keep on a desk, genuine, documented, and it will
not be replaced when it sells.

  • Shipped directly from our US fulfilment centre, tracked.
  • The geologist we work with is a member of the IMCA (International Meteorite Collectors Association).
  • We guarantee this moldavite is authentic, real and genuine. Returns accepted in any case of hesitation.

How do I know this is real moldavite? Look for the small bubbles – round or
elongated – combined with the striation lines running through the glass. Both are present in
natural moldavite and are extremely difficult to fake. Hold the piece up to the light and you
will see them. Cast glass also melts at a far lower temperature than genuine moldavite.

Does it come with a certificate? Yes. Every piece ships with its own
numbered BuyMoldavite Certificate of Authenticity recording the stone type, weight and
locality. We have worked with the same Czech mine for over 20 years.
